Half Swing in Golf: When we are less than 100 meters from the hole, we start thinking about swinging half swing. At 50 meters we do not have in the bag any club with enough angle to perform a full swing. No player has an 80º blaster, and even with this stick, we could not cover all distances.
Many players prefer to leave the ball more than 100 meters in order to execute a full swing. They prefer not to play a half swing to leave the ball on the green. Apparently not a bad tactic but hides the real problem of the player. Our protagonist distrusts of his short play and more concretely of the blows of half swing.
Often less than 100 meters from the green complicates the game for not being able to execute a full stroke. We present an efficient formula to control the distance in the approach blows that will improve your results quickly.
What is the half swing?
The half swing is a golf swing in which we do not perform the entire swing arc. We do not load all the force of the swing, and thus the ball does not arrive as far as with a complete blow.
To perform half swing some players choose to hold the stick 2-3 centimeters shorter. Thus, at a lower turning radius, less force in the stroke, although the latter is the definitive solution. It ‘s hard to make sure we play a lucky ball, our position becomes forced, and we multiply the chances of error.
How do we do a half swing?
The solution is at our fingertips and is much simpler than it seems. Let’s stand in front of the ball, in the typical stance for a pitch stroke. Imagine that our body is in the center of an imaginary clock so that the center of our feet mark the 6 hours and our head marks the 12 hours.
Located? Let’s start. At the usual pitch, our arms will go from 6 to 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and will end up high at 12 o’clock. In the downswing, the arms will lower by 11, 10, 9, 8, 7 and hit the ball at 6. Then our swing will continue at the follow through at 5, 4, … and finish in the finish.
We’ve written a full pitch, but we said we’re going to play half swing. In the mid-swing, we will raise our arms until 9 o’clock and strike the ball with much less force. It is important to emphasize that the reference is our arms and not the stick. Our arms will be the ones that should arrive at 9 o’clock.
What do we do if we want to hit it further? Simple, instead of staying at 9 o’clock we can go up at 10 o’clock or even at 11 o’clock. Similarly, to play a shorter stroke, we can go up to 8 hours.
Have we understood the technique of medium swing? Simple, right? It is just as simple as it is effective. Of course, do not go to the field tomorrow and start playing with this technique without having practiced before.
How do we know the distance of the half swing?
How will we know how far the ball comes half swing that we raise our arms until 10 o’clock? Then we will know the distance data based on practice, playing on the practice field 10-20 balls going up to 10 and taking references of the half swing. Then we will do the same up until 11 hours, 9 hours and so on.
And now that? Now we hit the field, and we hit the first half swing. The most important thing to remember is the golf routine. We will have to focus on making a swing loose and rhythmic, but especially thinking about stopping at 9 o’clock or 10 o’clock. Same as we have set for that distance to the green on the driving range.
Therefore, the most important thing is to focus is to raise your hands until the selected time and then let the swing flow. The middle swing. Surely we will walk to the green with the putt in hand!
